Everyone has a responsibility to keep children and young people safe and by ensuring your organisation has safeguarding policies and procedure in place you will be helping to protect children and young people, help your staff and volunteers know what to do if they are worried and will show that your organisation is responsible.
Additionally if you want to receive any kind of public money or are applying for charitable status you will need to be able to show that you are doing everything you can to safeguard the children you work with. Section 11 of the Children Act 2004 makes this a statutory requirement for all organisations that receive public money.
But don't worry - there is lots of help out there.
