The importance of capturing the pre-verbal ‘child’s voice’

East Midlands Regional Participation Leads have produced a very useful document in regard to capturing the voice of the child for safeguarding children of all ages.

As a workforce, we still need to acknowledge and implement within practice that all children’s views can be recorded within all aspects of frontline practice.  We can hear the child’s voice, views and lived experiences through the observations of the child’s interactions with key people in their lives. This especially applies to pre-verbal children and children with communication difficulties or a disability that impacts upon the way a child communicates.
