Lack of a common language is a key barrier to working effectively. This glossary has been produced by the Leicestershire Children & Young People's Board to assist the understanding of members of the children and young people's workforce.

The glossary seeks to do this by:

• Explaining core concepts and definitions which are commonly confused ormisunderstood

• Providing a starting point for you to consider how you use terminologyappropriately and where you could reduce use of jargon and acronyms

• Bringing together and explaining overlap between different words that are usedby different agencies to explain similar things
