Funding Opportunities - January 2012

True Colours Trust

The True Colours Trust provides grants to small, UK-based organisations to carry out projects that provide help for disabled children and their families.

The grants programme is open to small UK-based community and voluntary groups that operate on a local level.  The Trust does not provide grants for individuals.

Grants are available for one-off purposes, such as:


Two-week child protection inspections to start in May

Ofsted has finalised plans to begin two-week long spot checks of local authority child protection services from May.

 

The inspectorate's revised inspection framework of child protection will double the number of local authority case files that inspectors scrutinise. There are also plans to have a greater focus on children's experiences.

Counselling Skills for Non-Counsellors - Northampton - 10.03.12

Relate Northamptonshire is hosting a 22 hour Counselling Skills for Non-Counsellors course accredited at level 3 through OCN. This will be commence at 10:00 on the 10th March and will run over a period of 6 weeks.

 

The course provides practitioners working in a helping capacity on counselling skills based on Egan's well established 3-stage model and will give them the opportunity to progress to our further counselling skills course. Participants will:

  • Explore concepts such as their own personal constructs, ethical behaviours and referral
  • Examine change, loss and attachment
  • Explore the challenges of goal-setting and motivating clients to change.  

Therefore participants will develop an understanding and skills which will enhance their transaction with clients.

 

Target Group

Individuals whose role is supporting people including social work, education, training, and employment, prisons, the healthcare sector, community settings and information, advice and guidance.

 

Learning Objectives

the course aims to achieve the following objectives:

  • Understanding of the counselling process and skills
  • Development of counselling skills Development of sensitivity to the process of change
  • Ability to apply a range of counselling skills to promote positive outcomes for client

Duration

Week 1: 4.5 hours

Weeks 2-6: 3.5 hours

  • Tools and Support to Help You Meet Your Responsibilities - learn about the Safe Network Standards (see page 3) and the tools and resources that have been created to help you meet and demonstrate your safeguarding responsibilities
  • National Policy and How it Affects Your Group - an update on the Vetting and Barring scheme and the Independent Safeguarding Authority - are you aware of your responsibilities as an employer?

'Attachment & Mental Health in Children & Young People' - 1 Day Multi-Agency Training Event - Leicester - 21.06.12

This is an established course that has been well evaluated and highly received by Tier 1 professionals.

This training is supported and funded by Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland   Child & Adolescent Mental Health Strategy

 

The day aims to give a theoretical and practical overview of attachment theory, how it affects mental health and its relevance to multi-agency working with children and adolescents.

 

Targeted Audience

This training is aimed at Tier 1 professionals from the statutory and voluntary sectors who work with children and young people. Please note, priority will be given to those who have attended the Foundation Level 1, Two Day Working Together in Children and Young Peoples Mental Health

New Rep on the Local Safeguarding Children Board for Northamptonshire

Following the recent poll held amongst voluntary and community groups in the county, Ann Bodsworth of Northampton Women's Aid has been elected third sector representative on the Local Safeguarding Children Board for Northamptonshire.
