Common Core

What is it?

The Common Core of Skills and Knowledge - usually called the Common Core, describes the skills and knowledge requirements that people who work with children, young people and families are expected to have.

The Participation Works online gateway has news, information and resources to get young people involved in decision making across sectors.

The Talking Point website includes an online self assessment tool to identify strength and areas for support around communication skills and knowledge needed by people who work with children and young people.

Moving On Up -  A website for young people with learning difficulties (and their supporters) from ethnic minorities to find out about transition.

Leicestershire County Council - Downloadable 'Mind the Gap' booklets which provide information and guidance for childcare practitioners on supporting children through transitions

How is it being used?

The common core is being used in the development of job descriptions, induction (see common induction standards) training and development provisions. The common core will also be linked into the Integrated Qualifications Framework
